Warning
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK currently advises against all but essential travel to Haiti. An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale hit Haiti on 12 January 2010 causing major casualties and extensive damage in the Port au Prince area.

UK nationals in Port-au-Prince are advised that it is not safe to move in the city after dark. Travelers are advised against all travel to the district of Cite Soleil.
There is a low threat from terrorism. But you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be in public areas, including those frequented by expatriates and foreign travelers.
The hurricane season in Haiti normally runs from June to November. You should pay close attention to local and international weather reports and follow the advice of local authorities.

Health Care
Health insurance providing cover for repatriation in the event of serious illness is strongly recommended. Medical facilities are fairly good. The local herb tea is said to be good for stomach upsets.
